Beck's Bolero was recorded in 1966, while Beck was still a member of the Yardbirds. The song was recorded at a "secret" recording session because the musicians included drummer Keith Moon of The Who, who was unhappy at that time with his other job. Jimmy Page was invited to play electric twelve-string guitar, and session pros John Paul Jones (bass) and Nicky Hopkins (piano) also joined in. Initially released in 1967 as the b-side for Beck's first single as a solo artist, it was later released in 1968 on "Truth," Jeff Beck's first solo album. The song has been described as "one of the great rock instrumentals, epic in scope, harmonically and rhythmically ambitious yet infused with primal energy".

Just Like Elvis

Back in 1956, Elvis appeared on television and electrified my world. Suddenly, I knew I wanted to do with my life. This song tells that story.

Fireflies

Jim Tilly

My studio backs up against a pedestrian trail that is protected by a thick blanket of trees, vines, and all sorts of assorted plant life. This piece was inspired by the swarms of fireflies that come out of that canopy in early evening to flash their lights and dance their dance.

Bumpin' in Williamsburg

Jim Tilly & Randy Baxter

Whenever I get a new instrument, I try to write a song on the instrument as a way to explore the sounds the instrument can make. A couple of months ago I bought a Firefly guitar, and every thing I played seemed to come out sounding like sixties jazz. So, I figured I would just go with it and recorded this tribute to sixties jazz legend Wes

A couple of months ago I bought a Firefly guitar, and every thing I played seemed to come out sounding like sixties jazz. So, I figured I would just go with it and recorded this tribute to sixties jazz legend Wes Montgomery.

Recorded in October and December, 2021 by Jim Tilly (guitars) and Randy Baxter (drums). A medley of opening and closing sections written by Jim Tilly, and a middle section taken from "Bumpin' on Sunset”, by jazz legend Wes Montgomery. The photos were shot in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, NY on Feb. 25 & 26, 2020.

Waters of March

Jim Tilly

Brazilian composer Antônio Carlos Jobim (1927–1994) wrote Waters of March ("‘Águas de Março’ ") in 1972. It's a stream of consciousness affirmation of life set against chords that constantly move downwards, like the waters of March cascading downstream. It's one of Jobim's most popular compositions, and was selected as the most popular song of all

Herb Alpert’s accomplishments as a musician are legendary, including five No. 1 albums and 28 albums total on the Billboard Album chart and nine Grammy Awards. He was also one of my big musical influences. My first concert was Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass at the Tulsa Assembly Center in 1966. I played cornet in the band, and spent a lot of hours trying to get the same smooth sound out of my horn that I heard on his records.

Last fall I got another chance to see Herb Alpert at the Tower Theater in OKC, and spent a lot of time listening to his music both before and after that concert. One of those songs was Rise, a song which won Alpert a Grammy in 1980 for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. The song blended Alpert’s trademark mariachi rock with a disco tempo that helped the song get spins in dance clubs. This is my version of Rise, in which I’ve replaced the disco beat with a latin vibe. I've tried to channel a little trumpet on the Strat, but kept the 99 bpm tempo of the original.

Olé!

Shan wove The Fire Within in 2016. Please visit http://www.shangoshorn.net/new-page-31 to read Shan’s artist statement for The Fire Within.

Shan departed this life on December 1, 2018. She was an amazing artist, and the world will miss her creative energy and courage. She was my friend, and I'll miss her huge smile.

Enjoy!
